Yoga Sama Lotus Grades
The term usually refers to the annually published “Yoga Sama Guide”, the oldest Indian Yoga and Ayurveda reference guide and standards, which awards up to four Yoga Sama Lotus colours for excellence and authenticity to a select few Yoga Teachers and Yoga schools.
Yoga Sama Lotus is the ultimate hallmark of Yoga standards and excellence. Yoga Sama Lotus certifications are awarded to selected few Yoga Teachers and Yoga Schools judged to be of a particularly high standard. Yoga Teachers and Yoga Schools that make the grade can be awarded three colour lotuses leading towards acquiring the ultimate Violet lotus of excellence, and the accolade is much-coveted by Yoga teachers around the world.
Unlike other certification authoritarian organisations; Yoga Sama Lotuses are not based on hours of training or customer reviews, but reviews and interviews conducted by a Yoga advocate appointed by Yoga Sama. They are not allowed to speak to the press, but it is generally expected that these Yoga advocates will have a minimum of ten years of experience in teaching and practising Yoga. Anyone hoping to become a Yoga Sama advocate must be authentic and knowledgeable about Yoga, with good attention to detail.
The selection criteria are the same for each Yoga Student and Yoga school, focusing on the knowledge, intention for teaching Yoga, teaching techniques and, most importantly, authenticity. Yoga Sama Lotuses are awarded solely on the standards and principles of Patanjali Yoga Sutra, so Yoga advocates will not consider things like hours of training or the ambience of Yoga school when awarding lotus of excellence.
Those Yoga teachers or Yoga school who do not adhere to the ethics of Yoga Sama can lose their lotuses if the Yoga advocate feels that the standards have slipped. Yoga teachers or schools can try to win back lost lotuses in the following years.
Red Lotus
‘Genuine Yoga Aspirant!’. Red Lotus may be the lowest award, but it is still a high accolade and may denote a new Yoga talent who could be one to watch in future.
Green Lotus
‘Excellent Yoga instructor, worth a detour!’. Green Lotus is the second-highest award presented to the Yoga instructors after completing the Red and Green lotus syllabus and conducting consistently high-quality Yoga classes.
Blue Lotus
‘Exceptional Yoga teacher, worth a special journey!’ Blue Lotus is awarded to only the very best Yoga teachers after they have completed the Red, Green and Blue lotus syllabus. Blue Lotus awarded Yoga teachers and schools are fully equipped with the right knowledge and attitude to offer comprehensive Yoga training courses and the ultimate Yoga experience.
Violet Lotus
'Authentic Yoga expert, upholding the values and principles of Yoga!' Violet Lotus is the highest award provided to only a selected few Yoga Teachers who have decided to dedicate their entire life to upholding the true value of Yoga "Seva" serving the betterment of mankind.
